The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday will unveil a collection titled The Palaces Of The Mind, a collection that highlights the unique qualities of each of the three museums in its collection.
“This book tells the story of each institution, the ways they have shaped our national culture, and the people who have created them,” said John H. K. Schoenfeld, director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The collection will be unveiled in conjunction with the annual National Art Exhibition at the Smithsonian.
“Every single museum in the country has a rich history of artistic excellence and the Palaces exhibit the rich history and diverse voices that have helped make America a great place to live and work,” said David E. Shafer, vice president for exhibitions and collections at the National Museum.
“Each of the museums are an incredibly special place to visit, with extraordinary collections and exhibitions of art that are both enduring and moving.”
Each of three museums will be featured in the collection.
Smithsonian’s collection is based on the works of the world’s leading artists, including Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Rembrandt, Louis-Auguste Renoir and Louis Vuitton.
The Museum of Modern Art is based in New Orleans, and its collection of more than 400 works of art includes works by Alexander Calder, Raphael, Michelangelo and Sigmund Freud.
Palaces of Mind is set to debut at the opening of the National Art Exhibit in 2019.
“It’s a fascinating and powerful way to tell this story,” said Robert L. Hahn, director and associate curator of the exhibition.
“It tells a story about these three museums, but it also offers a window into how their work is being used as a platform for the expression of ideas and human emotion.”
The collection is part of the museum’s new “Cultures and Creativity” series, which is a collection highlighting the diversity of artistic styles in the United States.
“I think this is the ultimate tribute to the history of the country, but I think it also speaks to our nation’s future as a great art nation,” said Hahn.
“These museums are not the same as museums in other parts of the globe, but they have a special place in the hearts of people,” said Schoenfeld.
The exhibition is a celebration of the American artistic tradition, with artists from around the world from a variety of fields contributing to the collection and its exhibition.
Among the works will be the works by Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg and Edvard Munch, which have been displayed in the Museum Of Modern Art and are also featured in The Art Of Music and the Art Of Art.
Art historians will be among the participants in the event, with a variety in the field of history, architecture, urban design, design and public art.
The Museum of Humanities will host a special exhibition of contemporary American art from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Institute for the Study of American Culture in 2019, the collection will include works by D. H. Lawrence, Paul Klee, Philip Larkin, William Morris and Louis B. Mayer.
